Gujarat Research Society
Gujarat Research Society established in 1936 has completed 87 glorious years of its service to the community and contribution to education.
The following Scholars had been the members of the first Council of Management of Gujarat Research Society. Hon. Mr. Justice Sir H. V. Divatia, Prof. A. B. Dhruva, Shri R. P. Masani, Dr. Jivraj N. Mehta, Shri K. M. Munshi, Shri V. P. Vaidya. Diwan Bahadur Shri H. L. Kaji, Shri J. K. Mehta, Dr. K. T. Gajjar, Shri G. V. Acharya, Dr. D. G. Vyas, Dr. A. S. Kalapesi, Shri S. M. Mehta, Shri P. G. Shah, Prof. C. N. Vakil. Sir H. V. Divatia, Honourable Judge of Bombay High Court was the First Founder President of Gujarat Research Society.
During the span of 86 years, scholars and eminent personalities like Shri J. S. Taraporewala, Sir M. B. Nanavati, Dr. B. B. Yodh, Dr. D. T. Lakdawala, Dr. H. I. Jhala, Dr. Madhuri Shah, Shri H. C. Khatiwala and Mrs. Kaillolini Hazarat, have made outstanding contribution to the growth and development of the Society.
Dr. Madhuri Shah introduced Human Resource Development programmes by establishing Lions Juhu Centre for Children in Need of Special Care in collaboration with Education Department of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in 1965, Medical Unit was established in 1967 as also the Vocational Guidance and Counselling Centre. In the field of education, Hansraj Jivandas College of Education, affiliated to University of Mumbai was established in 1969; Bloomingdales Nursery and K. G. School and Jasudben M. L. School, affiliated to ICSE Board, New Delhi, in 1979. Later on Gujarat Research Society established ISC section for 11th and 12th, with Science and Commerce streams.
Dr. Madhuri Shah believed that Education never ends. With this belief Gujarat Research Society established Centre for Lifelong Learning in 1994. The Centre was established with the guidance of late Dr. Neera Desai and Prof. Kamliniben Bhansali.
Later the Centre was named as Pushpa Navnit Shah Centre for Lifelong Learning. The Centre offers various non-formal programmes which are open to all those who are interested, irrespective of caste, creed and pre-qualifications.
The Ahmedabad branch of Gujarat Research Society has continued to publish “The Journal of Gujarat Research Society” of a very high quality with scholarly articles and relevant photographs, every six months. Dr. Kirti Shelat Hon. Additional Director of the Society has taken over the responsibility of publishing the Journals as a Chief Editor. Today Gujarat Research Society has grown into a banyan tree with multifarious programmes and activities. It is a matter of satisfaction that all the units through which the Society offers various activities have grown into institutes of repute striving to achieve excellence in their respective fields.
