Hansraj Jivandas College of Education has established ‘Election Literacy Committee cum Electoral Literacy Club’ in the academic year 2023-2024 as per guidelines received from the Government of India.
The objectives of ‘Election Literacy Committee cum Electoral Literacy Club’ are as follows:

• To impart knowledge on the voting procedure in India
  
• To encourage the voters to participate in the democratic process by enrolling themselves in the electoral rolls
  
• To make young voters understand the significance of exercising their electoral rights.
  
  

The orientation program was organised to inform student-teachers about the importance of enrolling their name in the voters’ list. The Nodal Officer oriented the student-teachers about the process to enroll names in the voters’ list. The student-teachers were also explained the process to be followed by existing voters to change the address and other details.

The ‘Election awareness session’ was organised in collaboration with The Electoral Registration Office, 177, Bandra West Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Constituency, Khar(w), Mumbai. The session aimed to familiarise student- teachers and faculty members with the electoral process using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Mr. Manish Javanjal elucidated the functioning of the EVMs and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) through a live demonstration, ensuring clarity on the voting process. Following the demonstration, all the HJCE family members participated in a mock voting exercise. The mock election drill session not only fostered understanding but also instilled a sense of responsibility regarding the electoral process among college students.

The club organised a poster making activity on the theme ‘Vote for Sure’. All the student-teachers of F.Y. B.Ed. and S.Y. B.Ed. participated in the competition. Each student wrote a slogan to encourage voters to participate in the election process.

The club in collaboration with The Electoral Registration Office, 177, Bandra West Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Constituency, Khar (w), Mumbai. organised an election awareness rally and flash mob to promote awareness about the electoral process among the community and instil a sense of civic duty and responsibility among the youth. The event was joined by Mr. Acharekar, officer from Electoral Registration Office. The principal, faculty members, and student-teachers, embarked on a silent rally outside the college premises. Student- teachers carried posters and placards, advocating for the importance of participating in elections and making informed decisions.

The flash mobs were performed at Hanuman Mandir, Khar Danda, Khar West and Electoral Registration Office (177, Bandra West). The student-teachers performed a captivating dance on the song released by the election commission performance. Through creative expressions, impactful presentation, and traditional dress code, the event succeeded in igniting conversations about democratic values and responsibilities. Mr. Neeraj, Zonal officer electoral registration office applauded students' efforts. The flashmob exemplified the commitment of the ‘Election Literacy Committee cum Electoral Literacy Club’ of Hansraj Jivandas College of Education towards promoting civic engagement and democratic values.

The club organised an Intercollegiate Fest ‘Vibjuti: The Power’, an online slogan writing competition for degree college students. The theme of the competition was ‘My Vote My Future: Power of One Vote’. A total 77 students from various degree colleges participated in the competition

In a democratic country like India all citizens need to be aware of the duty to vote. By exercising the right to vote, we create a stronger country. Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves and this country. To reinforce this commitment to participate in the democratic process, staff and students took the pledge. It motivated voters to be responsible citizens.
